Kalki played the character of Chandramukhi in Dev D, which was a modern take on Bengali novel Devdas. For her debut performance, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

About her role in Dev D, Kalki was quoted saying, "My character is much younger and there's much more to it than just being a prostitute. When she is not entertaining customers, she dresses up like any other girl in jeans and stuff and leads a normal life. My role in the film has a controversial streak to it, but I still don't know what would have been an ideal role to debut with."

Did you know that Kalki was without any work for almost a year and a half after Dev.D until she was cast in her husband's next film 'That Girl in Yellow Boots'.

If you didn't know, Kalki also worked as a co-screenwriter with husband Anurag Kashyap for 'That Girl in Yellow Boots' and received appreciation for her role as well.

Kalki won The Hindu's 2009 MetroPlus Playwright Award, along with Prashant Prakash, for their co-authored entry "Skeleton Woman."

After working with Anurag Kashyap in Dev D, Kalki started dating him and they got married in April 2011.

Regretting about being so transparent about her personal life, Kalki had once said in an interview, "As soon as Anurag and I started dating we spoke about it. We didn't want to use the 'we're only friends' line. It just takes centre stage instead of your work, which is what you should be in the limelight for."

Sadly after two years of being married to director Anurag Kashyap, in November 2013, Kalki and Anurag both issued a joint statement and told the whole world about their separation.

Kalki confessed that after breaking up with Anurag, it wasn't easy for her to find an apartment in Mumbai, as neighbours were quite suspicious thinking that she is a white girl who has just broken up with her husband. But later they understood that she is just like any other simple ordinary girl.

In 2012, Kalki Koechlin won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Global Indian Film and TV Awards for her role in the 2011 film Shaitan.

After establishing herself as a versatile actress, Kalki was seen in commercially successful films including Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Kalki Koechlin was seen in a different role in Ekta Kapoor's supernatural thriller film 'Ek Thi Daayan' in 2013. While the movie did well at the box-office, Kalki's performance made a strong impact.

Kalki Koechlin was also seen with actor Imran Khan for a Coca Cola advertisement, which was voted the best of the IPL by the TOI Advertisement awards.

According to Kalki, it's a woman's confidence that makes her beautiful. She once said, "Even as an actor, you have days when you haven't slept enough, you don't feel like you're good enough. But ultimately, it's all about attitude. You must live with a little abandon and not be self-conscious. You ought to stop staring at yourself in the mirror, and just smile a little!"
